ELECTRIC GUITAR GRADE 7

What’s Involved?

Up To 75 Marks For
You are required to play THREE pieces. At least two to be played with a backing track or click track (each one attracts 25 marks):You can elect to play:

  • all three pieces from those listed within our syllabus
  • OR you can opt for three pieces of your own choice (*please find guidance in ‘Own Choice’ Zone)
  • OR you can mix repertoire featuring in our syllabus list combined with pieces of your own choice (*again please visit ‘Own Choice’ Zone for guidance)
Up To 15 Marks For
CHORDS

  1. Play three examples of both variants of the suspended chord e.g. Csus/Csus2 and Csus4 (do not use nut position D as one of your examples)
  2. Play a short chord progression using both suspended chords – discuss your conclusion about usage
  3. What determines the tonality and naming of the major 6 and minor seventh chord which contain the same notes e.g. C6/Am7, F6/Dm7 G6/EM7 etc.
  4. Name examples of songs which use the major sixth chord and also the style(s) of music and era when the sixth chord was fashionable

 

Up To 10 Marks For
Tuning
Tune a guitar on which five strings will need adjustment – candidates may use any preferred/practiced method but should use a familiar digital tuner if opting for this means – a maximum of 1¼ minutes will be permitted
Playing Skills Guide For This Grade
Bending to pitch / ninth chords / 8va higher / vibrato / twelve-eight time / phrasing / picking
