ACOUSTIC GUITAR GRADE 8

What’s Involved?

Up To 75 Marks For
You are required to play THREE pieces (each one attracts 25 marks)

You can elect to play:

  • all three pieces from those listed within our syllabus
  • OR you can opt for three pieces of your own choice (*please find guidance in ‘Own Choice’ Zone)
  • OR you can mix repertoire featuring in our syllabus list combined with pieces of your own choice (*again please visit ‘Own Choice’ Zone for guidance)
Up To 15 Marks For
CHORDS

  1. Strum or finger pick three songs of your own choice in the keys of G, D and A major.  Each song must contain a minimum of five different chords.  A copy of all three pieces should be provided for the examiner.
  2. You will be required to play any two pieces a second time as requested by the examiner transposed down a major 3rd.  Approximately 1 minute will be given per song for re-writing transposed chord symbols if required. Use of Capo is not permitted
Up To 10 Marks For
Tune a guitar on which all strings will need adjustment.  Tuning should be by ear and a reference E will be given – a maximum of 2 minutes will be permitted
Playing Skills Guide For This Grade
Consecutive tenths / change of key and time signature within a piece / harmonics / repeats / D. S. al Coda / Five and Six Four time / syncopation / dynamics and articulation / use of fourteenth fret / ornaments  / rubato / compound intervals
