ACOUSTIC GUITAR GRADE 6

What’s Involved?

Up To 75 Marks For
You are required to play THREE pieces (each one attracts 25 marks)

You can elect to play:

  • all three pieces from those listed within our syllabus
  • OR you can opt for three pieces of your own choice (*please find guidance in ‘Own Choice’ Zone)
  • OR you can mix repertoire featuring in our syllabus list combined with pieces of your own choice (*again please visit ‘Own Choice’ Zone for guidance)
Up To 15 Marks For
CHORDS

  1. Strum or finger pick a song of your own choice in the key of F major containing a minimum of five different chords.  A copy of the piece should be provided for the examiner
  2. Repeat transposed piece up to a major 2 or major 3rd as requested by the examiner.  The new key should be named.  Time is given for rewriting transposed chord symbol if necessary
Up To 10 Marks For
Tune a guitar on which four strings will need adjustment – A reference bass or treble E will be given if necessary.  Candidates may use any preferred/practised method but should use a familiar digital tuner if opting for this means – a maximum of 1½ minutes will be permitted
Playing Skills Guide For This Grade
Changes of key and time signatures within a piece / hammer-ons and pull offs / three note power chords / harmonics / rhythm playing from given notation / swing feel – triplets / D.S. al Coda / right hand finger technique
