ACOUSTIC GUITAR GRADE 7

What’s Involved?

Up To 75 Marks For

You are required to play THREE pieces (each one attracts 25 marks)

You can elect to play:

  • all three pieces from those listed within our syllabus
  • OR you can opt for three pieces of your own choice (*please find guidance in ‘Own Choice’ Zone)
  • OR you can mix repertoire featuring in our syllabus list combined with pieces of your own choice (*again please visit ‘Own Choice’ Zone for guidance)
Up To 15 Marks For

CHORDS

  1. Strum or finger pick two songs of your own choice in the keys of B♭ and E♭ major.  Each song must contain a minimum of five different chords.  A copy of the both pieces should be provided for the examiner.
  2. Play each song a second time transposed up to a major third or down a semitone as requested by the examiner, the new keys should be named.  Approximately 1 minute will be given per song for re-writing transposed chord symbols if required. Use of Capo is not permitted
Up To 10 Marks For

Tune a guitar on which five strings will need adjustment – candidates may use any preferred/practised method but should use a familiar digital tuner if opting for this means or if tuning by ear a reference E will be given – a maximum of 1¼ minutes will be permitted

Playing Skills Guide For This Grade

Use of the full and half barre / intervals up to two octaves / triplets in crotchets and semiquavers / change of key within a piece / rubato / separation of melody from harmony / two part playing
