• OR you can opt for three pieces of your own choice (*please find guidance in ‘Own Choice’ Zone)
• OR you can mix repertoire featuring in our syllabus list combined with pieces of your own choice (*again please visit ‘Own Choice’ Zone for guidance)

KEYBOARD HARMONY OR PLAYING A PIECE FROM MEMORY (either of these elements qualifies for 15 marks) 

KEYBOARD HARMONY

1. Using three notes in the right hand and the indicated bass note in the left, play the realisation of the following chord symbols avoiding doubling the major third where applicable:

C/E, F/C, G/B, B♭/F, D/F♯, Bm/F♯, CM/E♭, Em/B

1. Play three diminished seventh chords from B, C and C♯, right hand only
2. Play any of the following sixth and major seventh chords:

C6, Cmaj7, F6, Fmaj7, G6, Gmaj7, D6, Dmaj7, B♭6 B♭maj7

OR instead

PLAYING A PIECE FROM MEMORY
You can elect play one of your chosen listed or ‘own choice’ piece from memory

Up To 10 Marks For

MUSICAL UNDERSTANDING (10 marks allocated)

1. Discuss with the examiner the Circle of Fifths (diagrams may be used)
2. Explain the information contained/implicated by chord symbols and how this can be of practical benefit to the pianist

RIGHT HAND
Ornaments / three and four note chords

LEFT HAND
Broken chords over a tenth / four constant chords per bar

IN ADDITION
Interludes with both key and time signature changes / accented melody line / use of a sustain pedal on all pieces / twelve-eight time
